Recently I have been making my favorite sea salt caramel recipe very often. I've begun to dream up new ways to use it, which now includes these festive Chocolate Caramel Cadbury Egg Nests. This recipe is delicious, and adorable and after the caramel is made, it's a kid friendly and fun thing to make! You will need a portion of this Sea Salt Caramel Recipe cooled to room temperature, pretzels, sticks and snaps, Cadbury mini eggs, vanilla candy bark, vegetable shortening, and sprinkles.
Chocolate Caramel Cadbury Egg Nests
Sea Salt Caramel Recipe, cooled to room temperature
Pretzel snaps (squares)
Pretzel sticks (mini, broken in half)
1/2 cup vanilla candy bark (or white chocolate)
2 tsp vegetable shortening
Festive sprinkles and/or colored sugar
Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and place the pretzel snaps in rows spaced at least an inch apart. Over a double boiler or in the microwave, melt the vanilla candy bark. Stir in the vegetable shortening to thin it a bit and stir until smooth. Be sure not to overheat it, and reheat it slightly as necessary.
Working a few nests at a time, top the snap with a teaspoon of the vanilla candy bark, then arrange the halved sticks into a nest. Top with 1/2 tsp of salted caramel, and drizzle with more vanilla candy bark. Add sprinkles, and finish with a chocolate Cadbury mini egg. Allow to set at room temperature 20-30 minutes or refrigerate for 3-5 minutes, just until the candy bark has set.
Store in an air tight container with parchment between layers. Enjoy within 24-48 hours (if they last that long).
